Community Pride Award
Launch of a new annual award took place at the Parish Council General Meeting on the 6th May when Chairman Andrew Levis in the presence of the Full Council and Borough Councillor Thelma Jackson introduced The Community Pride award for Mottram St. Andrew to be presented for an outstanding contribution to the Village and it’s residents. The recipient of the award will have been recommended to an independent panel of Judges each year in recognition of selfless efforts to improve life in the Village.
Councillor Levis proceeded to announce the winner of the 2023 award was Charles Michael(Mick) Shaw who has worked tirelessly for others without seeking recognition. His efforts on behalf of the Village Hall include numerous tasks, many involving physical effort, including refurbishing the dance floor, organising events, for example the bon fire celebrations each year and taking a leading role in organising various other celebrations including the late Queen’s Jubilee. He has for many years been the booking Secretary and is always available to quietly sort out any problems. He is a very active member of the Social Club having served over many years as licencee, Treasurer, and Committee member. He was a founder member of the Mottram St. Andrew Fly Fishing Club contributing to the Committee as River Bollin Officer and taking a guiding stance on the current cleanup campaign.. He also serves the Parish Council as a member of the Social Media committee and performs the function of Internal Auditor.
The Award will be commemorated each year with the presentation of a framed Certificate and the recipient’s name placed on a dedicated Notice Board in the Village Hall.
Clerk to the Parish Council Ron Taylor added Mick was named in all the nominations received for the inaugural award and the Judges time was therefore not needed on this occasion.
