ADLINGTON NEW TOWN PROPOSAL

The majority of residents will have heard about the recent proposals from the Government New Town Task Force to designate Adlington as a site for a New Town containing 14,000 to 20,000 houses. The Parish Council will debate this issue at their next meeting on 17th November 6-30pm, Village Hall, when any concerned residents are welcome to attend. The Councils main focus will be to protect the interests of all residents of Mottram St. Andrew/ Newton and the surrounding area in opposing the destruction of the green belt and the Urbanisation of our environment. Rest assured that in the interim the Chairman, Councillors and Clerk will be monitoring all developments and assessing the need for any swift response which will be instigated, if required. The Council have, in anticipation, advised surrounding Parishes and the Borough Councillor that they will work in conjunction with them in opposing this scheme.

Parish Clerk Vacancy

The Parish Council are looking for a candidate to take over the role of Parish Clerk.

Our current Clerk has agreed to remain in post till a suitable applicant is found and will work alongside his replacement to ensure a smooth take over. Experience is not essential as training will be made available at the Parish Council’s expense. Computer literacy, organisational and interpersonal skills are however an integral part of the job. The majority of the work is conducted from home with 6 meetings a year to attend and minute. An appropriate salary will be agreed taking into account qualifications and experience with all necessary equipment being provided and all expenses being paid.

Environmental Pollution

Septic tanks and sewage treatment plants inevitably cause pollution to our environment and particularly to local rivers. This can occur as a result of failure to operate correctly, lack of servicing or through not being emptied at least annually consistent with recommendations and legal obligation.

Mottram St, Andrew and Newton do not have mains drainage and we therefore all have the same obligation to look after our environment by ensuring the disposal of our foul water as efficiently as possible. We also have the benefit of two attractive rivers passing through our area the Bollin and the Dean both of which suffer significantly with pollution of various types. We all have the opportunity to contribute to the reduction of that pollution by ensuring that our duty to look after our sewage disposal devices is met. Thank you all for your cooperation.

Mottram St Andrew Parish Council Community Pride Award

NOMINATIONS BY 20TH APRIL

The Community Pride award was launched by the Parish Council in 2023 and the first presentation took place at the Annual General Meeting in May 2024 to recognise the voluntary contribution to the Community of the individual chosen.

The nominations each year are made by completing a simple form which is freely available around the Village, can be downloaded from the website (attached to this page) or obtained from the Clerk to the Parish Council. The individual nominated will have contributed to the improvement of life in the Village and given freely of their time for the benefit of residents. Nominations will be received from non-residents and there is no requirement for the recipient of the award to reside in the Village, it is the voluntary contribution to the Mottram St. Andrew Community which is important. The work done or action taken does not need to have occurred during the current year, any time before is worthy of consideration.

The forms are received by the Clerk to the Parish Council before the deadline date and are referred to an independent Committee for confidential adjudication. The successful nominee will receive a framed certificate and his or her name will be placed on an honours board in the Village Hall recognising their contribution in perpetuity.

Please get involved and let the Community have your nomination for the award.

Be mindful of your home security this Christmas

Please ensure that you are all cautious with your home security as there has recently been a burglary in broad daylight on Oak Rd. We must all ensure that our homes are secure and alarms activated at all times particularly when we are not at home.
