Village Hall Meeting

Village Notice

The Mottram St. Andrew Village Hall adds immeasurably to the quality of life in Mottram St. Andrew. This important local facility is managed by a committee of trustees of the Mottram St. Andrew Village Hall charity under a governing document dated 1948. The trustees have been considering updating its governance and becoming a charity with corporate status, as allowed for by the Charities Act 2011.

As the facilities are provided for public benefit the trustees feel it is important that people understand what is planned, which is to change the charity’s structure from an unincorporated association to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) as approved by the Charity Commission. The constitution would be similar, with some trustees being elected at the AGM and some nominated by user groups as now happens.

The trustees hope this will make it easier to recruit new trustees, as incorporation provides limited liability for trustees.

Notices will appear on Village Notice Boards and the Village website over the next few weeks as required by the Charities Act giving a month for local people to make any representations to the trustees. A public meeting will be held on Friday , 19th August 2022 in the Village Hall at 7.00 pm in accordance with the current constitution in order to approve the transfer. If you wish to make any representations without attending the public meeting please send them to Steve Hatton at steve.hatton@gmail.com or to The Poplars, Priest Lane MSA by the 31st August 2022

The trustees are being assisted by the charity Cheshire Community Action, which provides an advisory service for village and community halls in Cheshire and is part of the ACRE Network.

For further information please contact Steve Hatton, Chairman of Trustees , using the contact details mentioned above .

Pension Credit Information

Pensioners are being urged to check their eligibility for Pension Credit as this provides a top up to their state pension and could help with heating bills, council tax and possibly a free TV licence for people aged over 75.

People may still be eligible if they own their own home or have savings, with the first £10,000 of savings ignored.

Around one third of those eligible for Pension Credit aren’t claiming it and that’s around 850,000 households.

Mottram St Andrew to welcome its first Ukrainian refugees – how you can help

As some of you may already know, we will soon be joined in the village by three ladies who are seeking sanctuary from the war in their home country of Ukraine. The first lady, Yevheniia, will arrive at the home Robbie and Shirley Fidler on May 20th. At the end of this month, my wife Kath and I will be joined by Mariia and Natalia, and we expect that there will be other arrivals as this dreadful war progresses.

At a recent meeting in the Village Hall, it was suggested that those who could not act as hosts might be happy to contribute to a central fund which could be accessed by host families to support their new guests and two residents have already made generous donations. The monies have been paid into the account of United Charities, our very own village charity which has been in existence in its current form for over a century. The five trustees, all Mottram St Andrew residents, will oversee any donations and ensure that the funds are used wisely.

Should you wish to make a donation, you can do so via the account details at the bottom of this message. The donor’s details and the amount donated will remain private. Please contact me directly if you have questions or require any further details. My email address is cllr.hughes@mottramstandrewpc.org.uk

Mottram St Andrew Parish Council has purchased two 1-tonne bags of sand together with a number of sandbags. These are being stored at Goose Green Farm with the kind permission of Steve Hatch and family. Charlotte and her helpers are generously filling some of the bags and residents are welcome to call Charlotte on 07814 600708 to arrange collection. Please note that supply is limited so only avail yourself of sandbags for the purpose of protecting your home from flood. They are not intended for any other use. Thank you.
